2021 was an incredible year for NFTs with NFT trading rising by over 700% between Q2 and Q3 alone, 2022 looks to continue the trend as the NFT marketplace continues to grow. You may have heard stories of some NFTs selling for extremely high prices during the recent NFT hysteria. With billions of dollars circulating in the NFT space and popularity growing, we wanted to make a list of the most expensive NFT sales to date.

  • 15. Artist: XCopy – All Time High in the City
    • Sold for $6,200,000 or 1,630 Ethereum
  • 14. Artist: Beeple – Crossroad
    • Sold for $6,600,000 or 4,400 Ethereum
    • Beeple may be the best known NFT related artist to date.
    • Crossroad became popular as a meme during the 2020 US presidential election campaigns.
    • Beeple stated he had several versions of the NFT ready, depending upon the results of the election.

    • Sold for $6,630,000 or 2,000 Ethereum
    • CryptoPunks is one of the first NFT collection projects

    • Sold for $7,088,229 or 1,600 Ethereum
    • This art piece was minted as an NFT in 2018, and appeared on BBC World News during an NFT related story
    • The Famous NFT investor covertly named “Cozomo de’ Medici” purchased the NFT
  • 11. Artist: Dmitri Cherniak – Ringers collection #109
    • Sold for $7,117,908 or 2,100 Ethereum
    • This piece comes from the artists collection within the generate art platform “Art Blocks Curated”

    • Sold for $7,560,000 or 4,200 Ethereum
    • This is one out of 2 alien CryptoPunks

    • Sold for $7,570,000 or 4,200 Ethereum
    • The 2nd of 2 alien CryptoPunks

    • One of only 24 Ape CryptoPunks
    • 1 of 142 with a cowboy hat.

    • Sold for $10,279,800 or 2,500 Ethereum
    • Landmark sale for CryptoPunks as the owner was a popular NFT influencer named Punk4156
  • 6. NFT Collection Project: Tpunks – Tpunk #3443
    • Sold for $10,500,000 or 120 million TRX
    • Tpunks was an NFT collection inspired by CryptoPunks
    • It was purchased with TRON cryptocurrency by the TRON Founder Justin Sun
  • 5. NFT Collection Project: CryptoPunks – CryptoPunk #7523
    • Sold for $11,754,000 or 4700 Ethereum
    • Refered to as the “covid alien cryptopunk” as the NFT sports a facemask
    • Sale occured on Sotheby’s Natively Digital Auction, not on a typical NFT market

    • Sold by Christie’s via an auction titled “21st Century Evening Sale”
  • 2. Artists: Julian Assange and Pak – Clock NFT
    • Sold for $52,700,000 or 16,953 Ethereum
    • It is essentially a timer counting the days that Julian Assange has been imprisoned
    • Part of Pak & Assange’s Censored collection
    • Pak is an anonymous artist
    • Purchased by AssangeDAO, an organization with a mission to free Julian Assange, who is the founder of Wikileaks

    • Most famous NFT to date
    • The sale of this NFT brought immense media coverage to the NFT space
