GameStop has released a public beta for its NFT marketplace and looks to compete with OpenSea and Coinbase.
What is the GameStop NFT marketplace?
The GameStop NFT marketplace was released July 11th, 2022. According to the official press release, the NFT platform will enable gamers, creators, collectors and others to buy, sell and trade NFTs. The gaming company GameStop (GME) plans to offer low fees and high speeds on the marketplace. They also plan to offer NFT educational material and content to including NFT basics like connecting a wallet to the marketplace.
The platform will be a non-custodial Ethereum layer 2 application. Users of the GameStop NFT marketplace will be able to use the GameStop wallet or other Ethereum (ETH) compatible wallets. The NFT marketplace will showcase featured NFT projects, creators and NFT collections on the homepage and will offer the ability to search and view currently over 236 NFT collections.

In addition to trading NFTs the GameStop marketplace will soon be offering many Web3 games that are coming via Immutable X. Some of the titles include Gods Unchained, Illuvium and others. GameStop NFT also announced a 100 million dollar grant program that game developers and builders can apply for to assist in creating Web3 NFT related games.

As this release is only a public beta, users of the platform should expect potential issues or outages until the official version is launched.
